For example, if I didn't like Beastie Boys (I don't like them that much, but some of their songs are pretty awesome still) and Hip Hop/Reggae much, I'd just say I'm not into that shit - but if they keep coming at me with it I draw the line and tell them "shut up I'm not interested".

If it's concerning the art, voicing / dialogue and the overall effort and design scheme, then I guess it could be argued to some extent.

Fire away! :3
What was bad about Elfen Lied wasn't the voice acting or art. If it is a psychological emotional thing as you say, then it has failed terribly. The directing was bad, script was bad and you had characters that most people wouldn't care at all about. The male protagonist(Kohta) was so such an empty character but it centered around him on what he had experienced with the female protagonist(lucy/Nyu). However it doesn't stop there because the whole series doesnt know what to do with itself at all. It tries to play so many elements and ends up doing nothing special or even try to be average.
The series as you might know contains horror, comedy, drama, romance, action, science-fiction, and suspense but as it tries to even play with these elements it leaves the audience feeling unsatisfied through the whole series(BIG surprise there).

But as I said before, people like watching bad shows simply because its anime and can connect to it more. It doesn't make the show any lesser or better but it does say much about how people watch something simply because of what it is. They're some good anime out there, no doubt however anime fans tend to over exaggerate as do most of any fans of anything would.

If people are keeping shoving like you say Beastie Boys in your face knowing you hate it, I would say its because of your reaction.

The only TV show I watched with passion was Boston Legal. It is a shame that many shows can't live up to the same intelligence as did Boston Legal with issues that effect today.

I remember watching Death Note. I lol'ed at how the characters had that strange sort of short gasp they'd do all the time.

Silly japan.

General rule of the thumb:

Anime with 2 or more seasons and more than 52 episodes is shit.

Don't try it.

There's always the exception, but if you live by that rule, you won't be disappointed with shit like naruto or bleach, seriously, they're bad and I can't see why people would ever like them.

I find it worse when they've got that thinking look on their face, or that shock look in a situation where they'd be given away dead on if they reacted in such a way.

The episodes before L dies are actually decent, it's crap after that.

Naruto on the other hand is pure crap, how can anyone watch that?

japanese anime has many different genres....from more kid orentated (doramon, pokemon, detective cohan etc) to soap operas, mysteries, sci-fi, etc....
there are lots of things that they cant do in japan (no guns allowed) so lots of stuff is done via anime instead. Some of the cartoons we saw as kids in the usa were first japanese anime (ever watch speed racer or voltron??) .....so anime in japan just got better and more diverse than the cartoons of the usa....Up until beeves and buttthead, the simpsons era there were only kid cartoons (for the most part) made in the usa, disney, hanna barbara et.al. Things changed a few years ago.

There are many GOOD japanese anime as well as lots of bad ones (I really didnt like ghost in the shell or death note, while most of studio ghibli stuff is excellent). Its like comparing our network tv shows---some are really really bad (like friends, signfield etc) while others are ok (er, house)....but its all a matter of personal opinion (yes I know a few people who actually LIKED signfield, ewwww just ewww).

Explore more of the anime than just whats shown on the cartoon network and you will find there is more to japanese anime than just inu yasha, bleach and pokemon (or elfin lied, lain, naruto---eww, etc).

[and yes I lived in japan for 2 years, japanese tv is very strange indeed]

Main problem is, only very few genres get aired on TV and spout out to become "the popular crap" in America. And then it gets thrown to the other countries.
And then we see kids with ninja headprotectors all over the world.

I'll say it now, the endless Shonen (Fighting anime etc) like what's airing now isn't my thing. My estimate would be most anime-haters here would think so as well. Because you know what? They mostly only air Shonen-anime on your tv.

I dropped the "holy trinity" of Bleach/Naruto/One Piece because the repeating plots, long talk during fights and brain-killing bad-guys laughs were killing me.
I'm only reading the One Piece manga from those 3 now. Since that one can be funny and cool at times. (Current chapter has a cross dresser who has eaten a Hormone-fruit. WTH?)

So now I only watch the ones which actually end and aren't milking themselves to filler hell. 26 Episode shows for example. (Exception would be Gintama. It has stand-alone episodes with a story-arc now and then)

Anyway, try watching stuff from a genre you like. Like fighting? Watch the holy trinity. Mech's? Gundam, EVA, RahXephon.. Drama? Key's stuff (Kanon, Air, Clannad), H2O.. You know where I'm getting at.
And Studio Ghibli stuff is always a great experience.

As for Elfen Lied, the manga's way better and ended a few months ago.
But hey, I'm European.

Wootz I loved Doug, not so much on Rugrats. The best has to be Arthur, that aardvark is hilarious.

The only anime I watch now are the Gundam series and some other mech anime. I used to watch pokemon and dbz back in elementary, but now i feel they have gotten boring so i stopped watching them. I dont know what's the attraction to bleach and naruto?

Oh, I agree. Second time through, I just stopped when L died, and told myself the series ended there and Light won.

Also, what's with all that stuff at the beginning with the song? Quite a few scenes that don't seem to appear in the anime itself :\ Stuff from the original manga?

Dunno really.
I didn't really like the first song, the second was alright, it was similar to SOAD.

I like it when most of the part shows are about superficial powers but keeps it looking real. Example, Smallville, Although not anime. Its hard for me to explain. I just like Naruto and bleach. They are both mainstream and focused on the character. I just hate too much drama drama like one piece. There are shows that are funny and there are shows that try to be funny that are not funny.

Do you guys get what I am trying to say?

Watched some Naruto, didn't really like it. The main dude annoys me, the battles follow the formula: 1minute of fighting then 10 minutes of talking. Not my thing.

Agreed. I got tired of that stuff when I was 10, and had been obsessed with DBZ along with like every kid my age in America. If they can't pull off a story in 25-50-ish episodes it's probably never going to end, at least not in a long ass time. If you want a short quality anime try something like Gungrave or Cowboy BeBop. Gungrave covers so freaking much in 26 episodes it's amazing all that stuff fits without the story getting warped like Evangelion's.

If you like Naruto or Bleach or stuff like that fine... Just know that these anime are probably designed just to create fads and milk money from their fanbase instead of creating a story that's meaningful. If you can tolerate reading subs and listening to foreign voice actors then try watching some decent anime online, there's a million websites that let you watch it for free.

EDIT: My avatar is very wrong... I have never watched a full episode of Star Trek in my whole life XD

I absolutely hate 99.2% of all japanese anime that is out there. One reason being that I'm asian; People usually stereotype me into the majority of asians that watch and follow anime religiously. I absolutely hate that. I've only watched 1 anime season in my whole life and that anime was School Days. Thought it was interesting but anime something I can never get hooked on. (Unless you guys consider Avater The Last Airbender an anime- I totally fell in love with that show.)

It's american cartoon shows that I will always love. Fosters Home For Imaginary Friends and Chowder FOR LYFE.

<- Can someone change my avatar to Comics or Jedi Geek

The majority? Are you kidding?

Even in japan, aside from the big cities like tokyo, there aren't many different shows aired by most of the regional brodcasters. And those that run nationwide are mostly the same mainstream shows appearing later in America and the rest of the world.

There are plenty of people who dont like or care about Anime/Manga and many of the rest threat them like the rest of part time TV Shows.

Hell, those who watch and follow anime religiously are looked down upon. Just like the standard western fantasy, scifi (or anime) geek.

I like good tv, regardless of where it is from. Most of the shows when I was small, eg. gundam wing, the girl from tomorrow, Mr Rossi, masters of the universe, I watched without knowing it's origin. If it was good, I watched it. Twenty years on and I am still like that.

It is like music. I don't stick to one genre. That's boring. I will happily listen to Nightwish followed by Royksopp and then some Mos Def to boot.

But I understand everyone's grips with fangirls/boys. No one likes fanboys/girls. They are too single minded and stuck in their ways to provide interesting conversation.

Agreed. Tell a story, then get out. You don't need 100 episodes of back story, fluff, and charging pointless spells and yelling REALLY LOUD.

My friend introduced me to the amv hell series, and I checked out some of the animes.
Some of my favorites:
Lucky Star/Azumanga Diaoh- pointless but funny and entertaining.
Trigun- Great characters and humor.
Excel saga- Good story telling and humor.
Neon Genesis Evangelion- probably one of the best I've ever seen. It's really emotionally deep, especially near the end. Great characters and intricacys in the story, really makes you think.

"Americanized" animes are not on the same level imo. Too drawn out, too much blond haired guys yelling at each other. American kids running around dressed in Naruto headbands and yelling "Fusion HA!" don't really know the tru meaning of anime.
